Luncheon Series
Women In Business Program
“Imagine a classroom where you can learn about a budgetary cycle and the
cycle of abuse, setting goals and setting limits, business acumen and self
awareness. Picture an environment where you can be student and teacher,
supporter and supported, autonomous and included. Consider a community that
cheers you on as you learn, grow and become the person you were born to be
and then gives you opportunities to reveal your authentic self to your peers
in a safe environment. This is what the YWCA Muskoka means to me. It is a
place to learn, laugh, work and play.”

For 7 years, YWCA Muskoka has
been providing an integrated life skills and business/employment skills
training program called Women in Business. It is designed to increase
confidence, self esteem, skill levels and personal and professional networks
ultimately leading to greater economic independence. Participants are
supported in completing a Life Plan, Education Plan or a Business Plan.
Participating in Women in
Business programming is not your ordinary classroom experience. The course
is designed to support women at turning points in their lives. Turning
points may include separation, divorce, homelessness, unemployment,
returning to the workforce, changing your career or being new to our
community. Women from all walks of life - stay at home moms, homeless women,
PhDs, high school drop-outs, 18 year olds to 75+ years old – realize that
they are all navigating new waters and experience the power of having the
training and the people to support their dreams, ambitions and ideas.
For up to 10 hours each week
for 20 weeks, the women explore a wide range of topics and relate them to
their own lives and experiences. Local experts, business people and program
graduates are regular contributors and provide participants relevant,
informed training and help them establish contacts within their own
community.
The program is offered in
Gravenhurst, Huntsville and Bracebridge beginning in mid-October running
through until March Break.
Since 2001, 228 women have
completed the Women in Business program. Approximately 40% of our graduates
chose to operate their own businesses in Muskoka, including several main
street businesses throughout Muskoka. Others have changed careers and
explored further education. If you or someone you know is interested in
exploring new possibilities for their lives, registrations are currently
being taken for the fall session. Register on-line at
www.ywcamuskoka.com or in person at 440 Ecclestone Drive, Bracebridge.
