Kara Kobunski, Getting Ahead/Seniors Coordinator

Kara has followed her love for adventure and people across continents, continually realizing that there is nothing more important than helping others discover their worth and potential. She grew up in rural Ohio and attended Ashland University where she majored in Psychology and Religion. After college she moved to Kenya to live in a children's home and be a part of the fight against human trafficking. Her education and her time overseas only increased her passion for social justice and serving people. Once back in the states, she was a case manager at a non-profit counseling agency where she worked with and advocated for abused children and struggling families. She was also involved in many community initiative groups and coalitions for mental health awareness.

After spending a summer doing seasonal work in the interior of Alaska, Kara moved to Huntsville with her partner. With a renewed passion for working with people and community health, Kara found a home at the YWCA right away. She will be coordinating Getting Ahead for Young Adults, and embracing all there is to learn from this amazing community. Kara also enjoys art, travel, paddling and anything else to get her outside and challenge her to be creative.
