National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE IS AT CRISIS LEVELS IN CANADA.
ON DECEMBER 6 , TAKE ACTION TO HELP END IT.
In Bracebridge, Muskoka there are three purple benches. These benches honour and remember three women: Wendy Boland, Natalie Novak and Lindsay Wilson, who lost their lives because of acts of domestic violence in Bracebridge. They also honour others who have died because of gender-based violence.
YWCAs across the country are calling for an end to violence against women, girls and gender diverse people through The Rose Campaign. December 6 is Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women; created in remembrance of the 14 women murdered during the mass femicide at École Polytechnique on December 6,1989. It is now a day dedicated to honouring the victims of gender-based violence, supporting survivors and advocating for a safer future.
Together, we remember: Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie St-Arneault, Annie Turcotte, Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz, and Anne-Marie Lemay.
Join us in taking action. Donate locally to YWCA Muskoka's work to prevent gender-based violence here across Muskoka.
You can also share your solidarity by
downloading a rose from YWCA Canada's website and sharing it on your social channels to honour the lives lost and stand for change. Tag @YWCACanada | #YWCARoseCampaign
